It covers a variety of approaches for doing this that support neighbourhoods to become legitimised and investible entities en route towards shared city outcomes - i.e. the Sheffield City Goals.
It builds on the momentum from a previous phase of work, which was funded through the NHS South Yorkshire Integrated Care Board in 2024.
"A neighbourhood is not a community. There are many communities weaving in and out, across and between, over and under our neighbourhoods. Neighbourhoods provide physical proximity to one another, but they do not signify common purpose. Neighbourhoods do not have hard edges. They merge at the boundaries. They are fuzzy and connected. More like a heatmap than a boundary map.”

A number of interactive maps have been produced through this work to start experimenting with a variety of approaches for layering different data sets through the lens of neighbourhoods. They are not perfect, nor are they exhaustive in their content. They are all intended as the starting point for neighbourhood conversations.
They are all accessible below and have been categorised in response to distinct questions. Click on the small black arrows to show or hide the maps under each question…
